EXCEL FILE IS LOCKED FOR EDITING BY MYSELF PC
My system locked up (unrelated to Excel or Onedrive) and I had to hard power cycle the PC to recover. I was working on an Excel file stored in Onedrive, using the Excel 2013 application (not the web application). This will award the user a ClippyPoint and change the post's flair to solved. Please check out Excel file is locked for editing for the latest information on this topic. Edit: Please ensure that you are not doing anything important on Excel files and if you are doing so then please save your work prior to performing the steps mentioned above. Let me know if you are able to resolve the issue. If it matters, it's a virtual machine (I've run like this on a more limited basis at prior employers with no issue, but would believe I just hadn't done so enough to hit this case). Click on Task Manager -> Processes tab -> Find EXCEL.EXE and click on End Process. I was hoping someone might be able to provide guidance on what might be causing this. I base that on the fact that A) if I open read-only, close the window, and then re-open, I get no such warning B) it seems to happen more with files closed via macro. In a situation like this, you can not edit the content. What I suspect is that the ownership isn't being released properly when I close the file. When you open a Word or Excel file, you may receive a message like File is locked for editing. However, if the user has the file open in Word Online in one tab and the same user tries to edit the metadata of the same file in another tab, it reports the file is locked for editing by the same user. In some cases I won't have touched the file for weeks. Sometimes it happens when users are just updating the metadata properties and not the content of the file. Excel, Office 38 editing, error, Excel, file in use, fix, how to, locked, personal.xlsb, pop-up I recently added some macros into my PERSONAL.XLSB file for Excel and started getting these annoying pop-ups saying that it’s locked for editing. by Excel Desktop App but when I open the file this way I get these. Now in none of these instances did I have the file open (on any machine, nor in background). This worked for every one of the 10 team members including myself for about a month. I'm having trouble with Excel fairly frequently saying that the workbook I'm trying to open is locked for editing by "another user" or "jmichael" (which is me).
